Part of our 'National Theatre' series, Nation is the National Theatre's family show for 2009/10, continuing in the tradition of the National's past successes there with adaptations of three other children's novels, Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, Jamila Gavin's Coram Boy and Michael Morpurgo's War Horse. Nation is the latest novel by Pratchett, the author of the popular Discworld series. Nation is set in an alternate 19th Century world, and centres on a South Seas boy and a "proper" English girl marooned together on an island after a devastating tsunami. The stage version is adapted for an audience aged 10 and over by playwright Mark Ravenhill (Citizenship), one of the most successful British writers to emerge in the 1990s, and is directed by Coram Boy’s Melly Still.
